Original Shelby Cobra Sunburst Rims with original period correct Goodyear tires
1965-66
The original Sunburst wheels were designed by Peter Brock, and manufactured by Kelsey Hayes in cast aluminum.
These are original rims and tires that were take-offs from an original Cobra in Europe. They were in storage in Germany for many years unused, before I found them for sale. The rims are in very good condition, and unlike many of these original rims, the porosity of the aluminum cast is not causing the rims to leak air.
They are not cracked anywhere and show only very minor rash for their age.
These rims represent very fine examples of this very low production wheel that was designed by Peter Brock and cast by Kelsey Hayes. Very special period correct wheels that would be the ultimate piece to complete an early Cobra restoration.
The history that is available to us says that this rim was produced by Kelsey Hayes to help offset the slow production of the Halibrand rims being used for the stepped up production of the narrow and mid body 289 cu.in. cobras.
There are no stamps or markings on them as to manufacturer or date.
They are designed to fit a (6) pin assembly for 2000 series and 3000 series Cobras.
They will fit on a replica cobras as well, but the hub assemblies will have to be (6) pin assembly not (5) pin.
