Thorough 3rd-party and personaltesting shows that you do not need to buyeither a new expensive airbox or new expensive filters, and you can't get a better performing intake. The BFI is the definitive intake system for these cars, and my BFI kit iswidely accepted as a baseline modification in 16 countries since 2008.
OVERViEW:Youunbolt and discard the inadequate snorkelfromthe existing airbox. Safely cut a large hole using the included template in the front of the airbox, and replace it. TheKit includes other pieces that are installed to redirect a higher volume of cold airflow.A simpleand safe realignment (no cutting, parts included)is made toredirect half of of the airflow from the front bumper. Air is "rammed" nto the airbox. All ofthesefeatures significantly increasethe cold air volume and intake pressure, and you get better performance.

What can this Kit do for your car? Increased horsepower (3rd Party dyno-up to 18.42 more horsepower results with earlier version 3.3) - dyno tested and has been accepted since ~2003. (3.5 offers additional and noticeable performance and better gas mileage over 3.3)

In the pictures, you can see my original, beaten-up BFI cover on my former 93 SC400, a customer's BFI on his SC300™ - he made some furtherrefinements to thetop cover. Notethat one of theSC300™ and Soarer™ mounting points on the right side of the top cover is simply screwed down to a factory-predrilled hole that is available on the radiator. Modeldifferences are addressed in the Installation document. Iam available toanswer questions during yourinstallation by email, phone. Some simple drilling is required on a few mounting points - mostly tojustenlargeexistingholes forsome clips.
What is the reason for the Intake Kit? As good as the SC & Soarer™ enginesare from the factory, it is commonly known and accepted that the airflow to the engine is badly restricted. By allowing more pressurized cold air, the engine performs better. The reason is that the Kit has a combination of 3 Crucial Features: extended cold-air separation from engine heat, rammed-air from rerouting cold-air thru the front bumper and a largerintake capacity. Having ALL of these features is the key. Other off-the-shelf intakes do not have the 3 features, cost more, and don't perform this well according totesting that others have done. You can still use your factory or secondary market air-filter with the Kit, so you don’t have to purchase expensive and maintenance-prone air filters. The BFI has been widely accepted for 21 years by those that have taken the time to properly investigate.
What you need to know: Since I have done the hard part for you by putting together this Kit, you will still need to make final adjustmentsby form-fitting or bending some of the plastic pieces by hand and/or with a heat-gun or hair dryer to get the proper fitment.These are minor adjustments. I was amazed how easily the install came together. If you take your time, and do not rush through the install, then you should be successful. If these samepieces fit my car, then they should fit your car toobecause they are cut from the same templates.You will need various other metric tools such as a socket setto complete the install as indicated in the installation instructions.So, if you enjoy tinkering with your car, and you want it to run better, then this is considered a great project with a clean, near factory appearance, giving you better gas mileage and worthwhile results!
